Mobile telephony and its problems socioecological

However, in less than 100 g concentrates a heavy environmental burden that we are unable to perceive. Not discuss the timeliness or otherwise of this technology, but we can not ignore technology to convert those pieces into something that is renewed once a year and accumulate to an average of 3.7 phones per person is not wise. This report addresses the socio-ecological problems of the mobile and in particular that related to the use of tantalum extracted from the mineral coltan. In any case it is a reflection of an everyday object of desire that is loaded with innocent blood on the inside .
Global explosion
In 2000, mobile phones had already achieved sales of 500 million units worldwide. In 2005 this figure was already more than 800 million units of which were over 50% contributed by three brands: Nokia (32.5%), Motorola (17.7%) and Samsung (12.7) . 38% of handsets sold when incorporating digital camera in 2004 was only 14%.
To put the magnitude of this trade should remember that in Spain in 2005 sold about 20 million units. 75% of phones sold in 2005 had an integrated camera, Bluetooth were 40% and 96% had color screen, with a notable increase in digital camera phones in the second half.
Economic growth in sales of mobile phones has been placed in recent years between 15 and 20%. Considering an average price of 130 € per terminal (although this value is not real by the grant that provide mobile telephone operators), the annual volume of this business has now reached dizzying figures: more than 2,000 million euros, 90% which correspond to renovation of older models. Statistics show that the average per person is mobile terminals 3.7, and 59% of Spanish mobile change once a year or more (the average mobile device in Spain in 2001 was 1, 55 per home). Over 79% of Americans have a mobile phone, making it a very personal display essential for almost everyone, according to estimates by eMarketer . But when asked about their needs, consumers in the United States placed the mobile phone through other devices or technologies, putting the car first, with 86% and mobile in the sixth with a 47%, below the fixed telephone, the dryer, air conditioning or computer, according to the study of Pew Research Center conducted in May 2010.
