mobile phoneOver 79% of Americans have a mobile phone, making it a very personal display essential for almost everyone, according to estimates by eMarketer . But when asked about their needs, consumers in the United States placed the mobile phone through other devices or technologies, putting the car first, with 86% and mobile in the sixth with a 47%, below the fixed telephone, the dryer, air conditioning or computer, according to the study of Pew Research Center conducted in May 2010.

Respondents said need more of these items, although preferences varied with respect to age. Consumers between 18 and 29 needed almost twice their mobile phones compared with those of middle age by 59% in the first compared with 29% the latter.

Personal computers and high speed internet also showed the same trend, with decreasing dependence with increasing age. In contrast, fixed telephone, television, cable service and flat-screen television showed the opposite pattern: older respondents felt these items needed at levels much higher. (more…)

Sharp Touch Wood: A Mobile Wooden Limited Edition

Last year in the MWC in Barcelona we saw a prototype of NTT Docomo curious that stood out for being made of a piece of wood. Well, the Sharp Touch Wood will go on sale next March 2 in a limited edition of 15,000 phones.

The housing is made of Japanese cypress wood and used a thermal compression molding wood, which is also water resistant to insects and fungi. To be of natural wood, each phone has a different and unique design.

Technically, the phone does not stand for anything in particular but their specifications are quite interesting. Touch Wood The Sharp has a 3.4 inch touch screen and 854 × 480 pixels, 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and a microSDHC slot up to 16GB.

The phone weighs 130 grams and measures 120 × 63 × 14.5 mm, but bean-shaped. It is quite likely that we will not see this phone outside the borders Nipponese, but it sure becomes a favorite of collectors.
